BASEBALL HAS A PROBLEM, MAZCAP IS THE SOLUTION

Pitchers are vulnerable to hard hit comebackers. Youth players get hit by bad hops, errant throws, when learning to catch fly balls, from line drives, etc. Field umpires, base coaches, and infielders (especially at the hot corner) are at risk from the monster line drive when there is almost no time to react.

Nothing exists today for pitchers, fielders, base coaches and field umpires that reduces the risk of head injury and is thin enough to be adopted and worn by players.

MAZCAP addresses the problem of line drives to the front and side of the head. It is hidden under a traditional baseball hat and is designed to pass NOCSAE testing.

“It only takes one”

Parents of young athletes know the feeling.
You cannot watch every pitch and assume luck will hold forever.

It only takes one bad comebacker or line drive.

SAFETY FIRST

VECTORWARE IS THE DIFFERENCE

Most sports safety products attempt to handle impact with padding that only compresses in place.

VECTORWARE does something different. It is a gel-based cushion that deforms upon impact, redirecting energy away from the collision. It is so efficient at managing energy that it allows MAZCAP to pass NOCSAE tests, be thin, comfortable, and hidden under a baseball hat.

If you want thin protective gear that can look like an ordinary baseball cap and pass NOCSAE tests, YOU HAVE TO RETHINK THE PHYSICS.

High-speed video of early research testing of VECTORWARE, showing cushion deformation upon impact, happens faster than can be seen with the naked eye. The impact energy dissipates via controlled displacement with an engineered polymer system.

MAZCAP – DESIGNED TO PASS NOCSAE TESTS

Hard Headed Solutions has performed thousands of tests as part of MAZCAP’s development. The first commercially produced MAZCAPs were tested at an independent, third-party NOCSAE certified lab and all versions passed the NOCSAE test. The adjacent table summarizes the NOCSAE test results for side impacts at ambient conditions.

MAZCAP passes NOCSAE tests and is thin, light, and comfortable enough to be hidden under a hat so a player looks like a traditional ball player.

A Few Words from Reid Ryan, Former MLB Baseball Executive & Minor League Team Owner:

“My son, Jackson, wore an early MAZCAP prototype when he pitched in college, and it gave me real peace of mind knowing he had extra protection on the mound.”

— Reid Ryan (Baseball Dad and Former Houston Astros president)

“As a professional baseball executive, I’m thrilled that MAZCAP is now available to all players. Pitchers, base coaches, umpires, and position players should seriously consider it—it’s a low-cost way to improve safety, reduce risk, and keep athletes on the field. Simply put, MAZCAP makes the game safer and protects our investment.”

— Reid Ryan (MLB Baseball Executive & Minor league team owner)

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MAZCAP?

MAZCAP is a thin, impact-absorbing insert that fits under a baseball cap designed to legitimately reduce the risk of injury to baseball players from a line drive or comebacker hit at the front or side of your head. It is invisible in appearance but powerful in performance.

How does MAZCAP help reduce the risk of injury?

MAZCAP uses patented VECTORWARE technology—a rigid shell with a gel-based cushion that deforms upon contact dispersing energy away from the impact, protecting vulnerable areas of the head without being bulkly or unsightly.

Who can wear MAZCAP?

MAZCAP was created for all levels: youth leagues, high school, college, and professional baseball. It fits pitchers, fielders, umpires, and base coaches. One size fits many.

Is MAZCAP comfortable?

Yes. MAZCAP is lightweight, thin, soft, and feels natural under a standard cap. Players often forget they’re even wearing it.
Note: MAZCAP fits well under most stretch-to-fit hats. Generally, a stretch-to-fit hat one size larger than the MAZCAP works well. Fitted hats also work well with MAZCAP. A fitted hat that is slightly larger than your MAZCAP will be needed to fit over your MAZCAP. Specific sizing information will be provided on the website soon.

How do I know it works?

The science is straight forward. Upon impact, the cushion deforms away from the impact point consuming energy that would have otherwise accelerated the player’s head. The cushion deformation results in drastically reducing the force transferred into the player’s head dramatically reducing impact severity. MAZCAP is designed to pass NOCSAE testing and legitimately reduces the risk of serious head injury from line drives or comebackers hit to the NOCSAE front, front-boss, and side locations.

Will it prevent every injury?

No product can. MAZCAP is designed to pass applicable NOCSAE tests and offer legitimate risk reduction.

Will players actually wear it?

That’s the point. MAZCAP is built to be ultra-thin, comfortable, and inCAPspicuous under a ball cap.

What size do I need?

One size fits many and MAZCAP is available in S/M, M/L, and L/XL. Refer to the MAZCAP sizing chart to determine the appropriate size for your head circumference.
